Gmail users have the easiest path to a structured email archive, but most tools make you jump through hoops — install a Chrome extension, set up a Zapier flow, learn Zapier's syntax, and pray attachments come through.
The Quicktion Gmail add-on skips all of that. It's an official Google Workspace add-on, installed from the Marketplace, that lives inside the Gmail sidebar. You open an email, click the icon, pick where to save it, and the email lands as a PDF in a folder of its own.
If you'd rather not click per email, you can also set up a Gmail filter to auto-forward matching emails to a dedicated Quicktion address. Both methods use the same destinations, so you can mix and match for different inboxes.
Works the same way inside the Gmail iOS and Android apps — useful when you want to save an email from your phone without opening a laptop.
For Google Drive specifically, the add-on replaces the print-to-PDF dance. Instead of opening the print dialog, picking "Save as PDF", naming the file and dragging it into Drive (and still not having the attachments), you click the Quicktion icon and the whole thing lands in Drive: the PDF, the original HTML, and every attachment under its real filename. If you already connected Google for Sheets, Drive uses the same connection, so there's no second consent screen.
From Gmail to Google Drive in three steps
Setup takes about two minutes. Nothing to install beyond the steps below.
Install the Gmail add-on
Add Quicktion from the Google Workspace Marketplace in one click. Works on Gmail web, iOS app and Android app — no separate extension needed.
Open any email and pick a destination
The Quicktion icon appears in the right sidebar of every message. Tap it, pick which destination you want to save to, and that's it.
Save with one click (or auto-forward)
Each email saves with the body, sender, subject, date and attachments where they belong. Prefer hands-off? Set a Gmail filter to auto-forward matching emails instead.
What people save to Google Drive
Each destination points at one Drive folder and files every email into its own subfolder there. Use separate destinations for receipts, contracts and client work.
Receipts and invoices
A PDF per purchase, filed by date
Forward receipts and invoices and each one becomes a dated folder with the PDF and any attached invoice inside. At tax time you hand over a Drive folder instead of scrolling back through a year of email.
Contracts and signed paperwork
The document and the email that sent it
Signed agreements usually arrive as an attachment with the terms discussed in the message above it. Both land in the same folder, so a year later you still have the context, not just the file.
Attachment filing
Every attachment in Drive, automatically
Set a filter for the senders who mail you files and stop downloading them by hand. Attachments keep their original names, and the email they came with is right there as a PDF.
Client and project records
A shareable paper trail per project
Point a destination at a project folder and forward the correspondence that matters. Drive handles sharing, so a colleague or client can be given the folder without being given your inbox.
What lands in Google Drive
Every email from Gmail becomes a PDF in its own Drive folder, with the attachments beside it.
Save from the Gmail sidebar in one click and the email is filed in Drive as a PDF, with its attachments beside it, from desktop or the Gmail mobile apps. No print dialog, no downloads folder, no renaming files afterwards.
The email is rendered to a PDF you can open, forward or hand to an accountant, with a header block carrying the sender, recipients, date and subject.
One folder per email holds the PDF, the original HTML and every attachment under its real filename.
Folder names follow a pattern you choose. The default is {date}_{subject}, and {sender} and {domain} are available too, so folders sort the way you file things.
Attachments always come along. Signature and logo images stay inside the PDF instead of littering the folder with tracking pixels.
Nothing to map. A Drive destination is a folder and a name pattern, and that's the whole configuration.
