Google Drive Connection Issues
If a Google Drive destination has stopped saving, or a folder in Drive doesn't look the way you expected, work through the section that matches what you're seeing. The activity feed in your dashboard is the fastest way to tell which one applies: it shows the status and error for every email.
Your Destination Is Paused: Reconnect Google
If Google's access token expires or gets revoked, Quicktion pauses the destination and emails you.
This usually happens after you change your Google password, revoke access from your Google account settings, or leave the connection unused for a long stretch.
To fix it:
- Go to Settings in your Quicktion dashboard.
- Delete the Google integration.
- Click Connect Google and authorize again.
- Reactivate the paused destinations from the destinations page.
One thing to know: Sheets and Drive share a single Google connection, so an expired token pauses every destination using it, not just the Drive one. Reconnecting brings them all back.
Your Destination Is Paused: The Folder Is Missing
If the destination's Drive folder has been deleted or moved to the trash, what happens next depends on where the folder came from.
Folders Quicktion created for you are recreated automatically. The next save makes a new folder with the same name and carries on. Emails saved into the old folder are still in your Drive trash until it's emptied.
Folders you picked yourself can't be restored on your behalf, so Quicktion pauses the destination and sends you an email titled "Your Google Drive folder is missing."
To fix a picked folder:
- Check Drive's trash first. If the folder is there, restoring it is the cleanest fix, since your old emails come back with it.
- Otherwise, open the destination in your dashboard and choose a new folder with the picker.
- Reactivate the destination from the destinations page.
New emails then save into the new folder. Emails saved before the folder went missing stay wherever they were.
A Row Says "Saved Without PDF"
This means the email reached Drive but the PDF renderer had trouble with that particular message. The subfolder still contains email.html and every attachment, so nothing is lost.
Open email.html in a browser to read the message as it was sent.
It's usually a one-off. If you're seeing it on most saves, contact us with the destination name and roughly when it started so we can check the logs.
Heavy marketing emails, the ones built as deeply nested tables with web fonts, are the most likely to render imperfectly. Receipts, invoices, and normal correspondence come out clean.
Emails Aren't Arriving in Drive at All
Work down this list:
- Check the activity feed. If the email isn't listed there, it never reached Quicktion, which points at the forwarding address or the rule. If it is listed with an error, the error tells you which section above applies.
- Check the forwarding address. One wrong character and the email goes nowhere. Copy it from the destination page rather than typing it.
- Check the destination status. Paused destinations don't save. See the two sections above for why one pauses.
- Check your monthly quota. The free plan covers 25 saved emails a month. Emails beyond that are held until your cycle resets. See plans and pricing.
More general causes are in emails not arriving.
The Folder Names Aren't What I Expected
Subfolder names come from the destination's name pattern. A few behaviors surprise people:
{date}is the email's date in UTC, formattedYYYY-MM-DD. If you're in a timezone far from UTC, an email sent late in the evening can carry the next day's date.- Subjects are trimmed at 80 characters and the whole name at 150.
- Slashes become dashes, because Drive folder names can't contain them.
- An email with no subject gets
no subject. - Two emails with the same subject on the same day produce two folders with the same name. Drive allows this, and Quicktion doesn't add a suffix to tell them apart.
You can change the pattern any time from the destination page in the dashboard. Folders already created keep their names.
Attachments Are Missing from a Folder
Every real attachment is saved, so check these first:
Inline images aren't attachments. Signature logos, header banners, and tracking pixels appear inside the PDF but aren't saved as separate files. That's deliberate, otherwise every folder would be full of 40-pixel logos.
Very large attachments saved from the Gmail add-on can fail. The add-on sends the files with the request, and there's a 10 MB ceiling on that request. Forward the email instead if you're dealing with something bigger.
Check your Drive storage. If your Google account is out of space, uploads fail. The activity feed shows an error on those saves.
Permission Denied During Setup
If you see a permission error while connecting, your Google Workspace administrator may have restricted third-party app access. Ask your admin to allow Quicktion, or connect a personal Google account instead.
If the authorization window never opens, your browser is probably blocking pop-ups for quicktion.io.
Things That Work Differently Than You Might Expect
- Shared Drives aren't supported yet. Destinations save into My Drive folders only. You can share the folder with your team afterwards.
- There's no backfill. Emails save from the moment you forward them or click save. Quicktion doesn't reach back into your mailbox.
- AI processing doesn't apply to Drive. The PDF is the email as it arrived, with no summarizing or rewriting.
- Retry works. If a save failed, use the retry action on the log row rather than forwarding the email again.
